Kotcha Review 2026: Pros, Cons and Pricing Compared With Trailia
An honest Kotcha review: what it costs, who it suits, what reviewers say, where it stops short for trail and ultra runners, and how it compares with Trailia.
The short verdict
Kotcha is a polished AI running coach with an unusual pedigree: Eliud Kipchoge co-founded it, Kilian Jornet joined as an athlete co-founder in spring 2026, and its plans rebuild every week around what you actually ran. It syncs with Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS and Huawei, includes strength drills and race-day nutrition built with Maurten, and has native iPhone and Android apps. For a runner training for a 5K to a marathon, on road or trail, it is a good choice.
Where it is weaker for trail runners: as of October 2026 Kotcha lists plans for 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon and "trail", but no ultra distances. It has no free tier (a one-week trial, then roughly EUR 14.99 a month), and an independent reviewer found fewer plan types than Runna. The trail layer is new: Jornet's involvement was announced in 2026, months after the app launched as a road product.
We build Trailia, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to be fair: if you run roads and trails up to the marathon, or you want to train inside a method shaped by Kipchoge and Jornet, Kotcha is a real contender. If you are training for a 50K or longer, want climbing targets in every week, or want a plan that is free to start, Trailia is the better fit.
Prices and features below were checked against Kotcha's own site, its App Store listing and press coverage in October 2026.
Kotcha at a glance
Kotcha launched in October 2025 with EUR 3.5 million in pre-seed funding and, according to press coverage in June 2026, about 50,000 subscribers. It has four AI "coaches" (head coach, trainer, nutritionist and data analyst) that guide the plan, and it generates a new training week every week from your recent data and feedback.

What Kotcha does well
Athlete founders who are actually involved
Kotcha's story holds up. Kipchoge and the NN Running Team worked on the product from early 2025, and Kotcha's own site says Jornet's approach to "endurance, terrain reading and mountain strategy" is built into every trail plan it generates, after the team worked with him in Mallorca in spring 2026. If training inside a method shaped by those two appeals to you, that is a legitimate reason to choose Kotcha.
A plan that rebuilds every week
Each week Kotcha regenerates your schedule from what you did, not what was planned. An independent reviewer who used it for about twelve weeks (Gritty Runners, April 2026) praised the mix of easy, moderate and hard sessions and the way mileage built gradually rather than aggressively.
Nutrition and strength in the same app
Kotcha builds race-day fueling with Maurten and includes strength and conditioning drills in the plan. If you want training, fueling and strength in one place, it covers all three.
Wider watch support and native apps
Kotcha syncs with Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS and Huawei, and it has native iPhone and Android apps. Trailia syncs with Garmin, Polar and Strava, so Apple Watch, COROS and Huawei users are better served by Kotcha.
Where Kotcha falls short for trail runners
No ultra distances
Kotcha's site and App Store listing name 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon and trail. The Gritty Runners review states plainly that there were "no ultra distances" at the time of review. Kotcha's website also mentions training for "your own race", so if your event is a 50K, ask support or use the trial to see what the app builds before you pay. For a 50-mile or 100K race you will want a plan with back-to-back long runs and time-on-feet sessions, which Kotcha's public material does not describe.
The trail layer is new
Kotcha launched as a road app in October 2025 and added the Jornet trail method in 2026. The method is credible, but we found no published weekly vertical targets or descent training in its public material, which a trail-first plan would include.
No free tier
You get a one-week trial, then roughly EUR 14.99 a month or EUR 109.99 a year. That is about 50% more than Trailia Pro each month and EUR 30 more each year.
Mixed notes on polish
Kotcha's website cites a 4.9 star rating on both app stores; its US App Store listing shows 4.5 out of 5 from 250 ratings (October 2026). Reviewers praise the adaptive plans and the AI coach's answers. Recurring complaints are an interface some find unfriendly, requests for a light theme, and occasional crashes after updates. The Gritty Runners review also found fewer plan types than Runna, strength drills without video demonstrations, and one case where the algorithm scheduled a 79 km peak week after 3.5 weeks off.
What Trailia does well
Plans built for trail and ultra distances
Trailia's plans run from 10K to 100 miles. They are built from your race date, distance and elevation, adapt as your Garmin, Polar or Strava data comes in, and plan vertical gain alongside distance each week. One active race goal is free with no time limit.
Free race tools that work without an account
The race time predictor estimates a finish time from a recent result and the course profile. The race readiness score compares a recent performance with your target race. Kotcha has no standalone equivalents.
Workout reviews and fueling in Pro
Trailia Pro adds an AI review of each completed workout against what was planned, and a race fueling plan sized to your race duration. Pro is EUR 9.99 a month or EUR 79.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial.
What Trailia does not have
No road plans, no Apple Watch, COROS or Huawei sync, no native Android app (Android runs as an installable web app) and no Maurten partnership. If any of those is a must, choose Kotcha.
Who should choose which
Choose Kotcha if you run road and trail up to the marathon, you wear an Apple Watch, COROS or Huawei watch, you want the Kipchoge and Jornet method, or you want Maurten-based race nutrition.
Choose Trailia if you train mainly on trails, your goal is a 50K or longer, you want climbing built into every week, you run with Garmin or Polar, or you want a plan that is free to start.
Use both if you follow Kotcha's plan for a trail marathon and want a second opinion on finish time or readiness. Trailia's tools are free and both apps sync with Strava.
Try Trailia before you decide
The fastest way to compare is to see your own plan. Build a free trail plan for your race in about two minutes, then create a free account to sync your watch. Kotcha's one-week trial is still there if you want to run them side by side. See also how Trailia compares with Runna, Garmin Coach and Vert.run.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kotcha pricing?
As of October 2026, Kotcha has no free tier: it offers a one-week free trial, then EUR 14.99 a month or EUR 109.99 a year (GBP 14.99 a month or GBP 99.99 a year in the UK). The US App Store lists monthly prices of $14.99 to $19.99, a quarterly plan at $44.99 and annual prices of $59.99 to $119.99, so check the price in the app before you start the trial. Trailia Pro is EUR 9.99 a month or EUR 79.99 a year, and Trailia's free tier has no time limit.
What do Kotcha reviews say?
Reviews are mostly positive. A Gritty Runners review (April 2026, about twelve weeks of use) praised the workout mix, gradual mileage progression and post-run feedback, but found fewer plan types than Runna, no ultra distances, strength drills without video demonstrations and one risky peak week after time off. Kotcha's US App Store listing shows 4.5 out of 5 from 250 ratings (October 2026); users praise the adaptive plans and AI coach, and complain about the interface, crashes after updates and the lack of a light theme.
Is Kotcha worth it?
It is worth trying if you train for a 5K to a marathon on road or trail, wear an Apple Watch, COROS or Huawei watch, or want a plan shaped by Eliud Kipchoge and Kilian Jornet. It is a weaker fit for 50K and longer races, because no ultra distances are listed, and it costs about 50% more per month than Trailia Pro with no free tier.
Who founded Kotcha?
Kotcha was co-founded with Eliud Kipchoge and the NN Running Team and launched in October 2025 with EUR 3.5 million in pre-seed funding. Kilian Jornet joined as an athlete co-founder in spring 2026, and his trail method was built into Kotcha's trail plans after the team worked with him in Mallorca.
Does Kotcha support trail and ultra running?
Kotcha lists trail as a plan type, using Kilian Jornet's approach to terrain and mountain strategy. Its site and App Store listing name 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon distances, and an April 2026 review found no ultra distances. Its website mentions training for "your own race", so if your event is a 50K, try the trial or ask support before paying. Trailia plans trail races from 10K to 100 miles.
Is Kotcha available on Android?
Yes. Kotcha is on the App Store and Google Play. Its US App Store listing requires iOS 18 or later. Trailia has an iPhone app and works on Android as an installable web app.
Which watches does Kotcha support?
Kotcha syncs with Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS, Huawei and Strava. Trailia syncs activities from Garmin, Polar and Strava, so Apple Watch, COROS and Huawei users are better served by Kotcha, and Polar users by Trailia.
Is there a free Kotcha plan?
No. Kotcha offers a one-week free trial and then charges a subscription. Trailia's free tier does not expire: it builds a plan around one race goal, adapts it to your Garmin, Polar or Strava data, includes strength sessions and gives you the race predictor and readiness tools.
Does Kotcha include nutrition planning?
Yes. Kotcha builds race-day fueling plans with Maurten and has a nutritionist coach persona. Trailia Pro includes a race fueling plan sized to your race duration, without a branded nutrition partner.
Is Kotcha or Runna better?
Both are subscription apps with adaptive plans and strength work. Kotcha is cheaper in the US ($14.99 a month against Runna's $19.99) and has Kipchoge and Jornet's methods, but an April 2026 reviewer found fewer plan types than Runna. Runna adds ultra plans up to 50K and an Elevation Profile setting for hilly training, and supports more watches, including Suunto and Fitbit. See our Runna review for details.
Which is better for trail running, Kotcha or Trailia?
For road and trail up to the marathon, Kotcha is a strong choice. For trail-first training, 50K and longer races, climbing targets in every week and a plan that is free to start, Trailia is the better fit. Neither offers a human coach.
Can I use Kotcha and Trailia together?
Yes. A common combination is to follow Kotcha's plan for a trail marathon and use Trailia's free race predictor and readiness tools for a second opinion before race day. Both sync with Strava.
